Common issues with battery installation

1. How to determine the installation method of the battery? Why is it best to use horizontal placement for high type batteries and vertical placement for low type batteries?

Vertical placement of high-end batteries can easily lead to electrolyte stratification within the battery. Over time, the density of sulfuric acid in the upper layer becomes thinner, while the density of sulfuric acid in the lower layer becomes thicker, resulting in the formation of a concentration difference micro battery. This can lead to severe self discharge of the battery and shorten its service life in the long term.

Common issues with battery installation

High design batteries should be installed horizontally to avoid electrolyte stratification during use. When installing, the main consideration is the installation area and ground bearing capacity. Users can choose the installation method of the second, fourth, and eighth floors based on the battery placement area. If the ground bearing capacity allows, choosing the fourth or eighth floor installation method can save land area. This method is more suitable for batteries placed on the first floor or basement. For situations where there is sufficient area but the ground bearing capacity is poor, it is recommended to use the second floor installation method.

The possibility of electrolyte layering in low-end batteries is much smaller, and using vertical placement will effectively reduce the possibility of battery leakage. Therefore, it is advisable to choose a firm placement for low-end batteries.

Installation area:

The installation of battery packs should reserve installation, maintenance space, and testing channels according to the actual situation.

Floor bearing capacity:

Select the appropriate number of floors and placement method based on the load-bearing requirements of the building design.

Outgoing method:

There are two options for selecting: one end outlet and the other end outlet.

Appearance selection:

Customers can choose different battery racks for installation based on actual requirements.

Whether it is installation or maintenance, it is important to understand and prevent the following potential risks that may occur

Electrical injury: short circuit between positive and negative poles; Reverse connection of positive and negative poles; Electric shock.

Mechanical injury: The handle (pull rope) fails during transportation.

Chemical damage: Battery leakage.

2. What items do batteries need to be checked frequently during operation and maintenance?

(1) The total voltage, charging current, and float charging voltage of each battery;

(2) Check if the battery connection strip is loose or corroded;

(3) Check for leakage and deformation of the battery casing;

(4) Is there any acid mist overflowing around the battery pole and safety valve.

3. Will the newly installed battery have a significant pressure difference that affects its use?

After a certain period of floating charge operation, the floating charge voltage of newly installed batteries will tend to be uniform, because the saturation of sulfuric acid is high and the gas recombination efficiency is poor. After operation, the saturation will slightly decrease, and the floating charge voltage of the battery will also be uniform.

4. What are the reasons for the voltage difference of batteries during long-term float charging operation?

At present, there is a phenomenon of uneven floating charging voltage in VRLA batteries, which is caused by the accumulation of errors in the quality, quantity, and content of accessories and materials used in various stages of battery production. In particular, VRLA batteries adopt a lean liquid design, and the errors will affect the internal sulfuric acid saturation of the battery, which directly affects the recombination of oxygen during floating charging, resulting in different overpotentials of the battery during floating charging, The float charging voltage of the battery is also different. But after a certain period of float charging operation, the float charging voltage of VRLA batteries will tend to be uniform. Due to the poor oxygen recombination efficiency of batteries with high sulfuric acid saturation, the saturation slightly decreases, and the floating voltage of the battery tends to be uniform.

In addition, the voltage drop of the connection strip connected in series with the battery is high; Poor contact between pole and connecting strip; The new battery may exhibit unevenness within three to six months of operation.

5. How to judge lagging batteries during floating charging operation?

Backward batteries have a low terminal voltage during discharge, so they should be measured in the discharge state. If the terminal voltage is the lowest measured in three consecutive discharge cycles, it can be considered as a backward battery in the group. If there is a backward battery, the battery pack should be evenly charged.

For example, for batteries in a floating charge state, attention should be paid if the floating charge voltage is lower than 2.16V.

6. Does the battery sometimes experience slight swelling, which can affect its use?

Due to the internal pressure inside the battery, there is a slight bulge in the battery casing. On the one hand, manufacturers should pay attention to the opening pressure of the safety valve to ensure that the internal pressure of the battery is not too high, and choose appropriate casing materials and thickness; On the other hand, users should carry out normal maintenance and upkeep of the battery to avoid overcharging and thermal runaway.

7. After the battery is discharged, how long does it usually take to fully charge?

The time required for the battery to fully charge after discharge varies with the discharge capacity and initial charging current. If the battery is discharged at a rate of 10 hours and has a discharge depth of 100%, after 24 hours of charging through "constant voltage current limiting" and "constant current voltage limiting", the charging capacity of the battery can reach over 100%.
